What?

You pick the activity. Walking, running, biking, skipping, dancing, rocking on a rocking chair, swinging on a hammock, reading, if you want to TRY it, go for it! Once you pick an activity, ask people to support you. We are even providing a letter for you (PDF, Word) to send out asking for support, so the hard part is already done for you! Many times fundraisers are adult only events, but this one is for the whole family and is especially fun for kids! And we know grandmas and grandpas and aunts and uncles would love to support them!

Choose the activity you are supporting from the list on the below, or type the name of participant in comment box.

Where?

Anywhere! Wherever is best for you depending on the activity you choose! You could run 10 miles, pickup garbage in the park, or mow lawns for your neighbors.

When?

Up to you! We will be “hosting” the event Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. The Love and Hope kids will be doing their TRY-a-thon activities all summer long, and we’ll even be hosting a few in Ohio that you can join!

Who?

You! And your kids, your grandkids, your nieces and nephews, your brothers and sisters, your neighbors, your cousins, your coworkers – you get the point – anyone can participate!

Why?

To support the education of the young people at Love and Hope Children’s Home! Nearly 25% of our yearly budget is invested in providing a solid education for our young people and supporting them through university. 100% of the money raised through Love. Hope. Try! will go toward education.

FAQ

Are the kids in El Salvador going to participate? YES! Each of the Love and Hope kids will be participating. They have each chosen an activity to TRY. We will share videos of them all summer long. Keep an eye on our Facebook page and Instagram. We’d love to see pictures of you and your family participating! Send them in! And, if you give us permission we will even share them on social media!

Who should I ask to support me? Send your support letter to anyone you want. Aunts and Uncles, Grandparents, Teachers, coaches, Youth group leaders, babysitters, neighbors, etc.

Do I have to do my activity in a certain amount of time or for a certain amount of time? It’s up to you. You can choose to give yourself a goal of how long you can do something (I will do jumping jacks until I fall over) or you can set a goal to accomplish your goal in a set amount of time (I will mow 25 lawns) or you can have a goal with no time limit (my three year old will ride her tricycle around our development 4 times on Saturday).

What if I don’t reach my goal? It’s a TRY-a-thon, so as long as you TRY, then you DID reach your goal. Give it your best effort and remember it’s for a great cause.

Do people have to give a certain amount? NO! Again, you pick. You can ask people to give a flat amount if you reach your goal or you can ask your supports to give a dollar amount depending on how long or far you do your activity. If you are doing jobs like mowing lawns or washing cars, you can ask for a donation. Remember any amount no matter how small is helpful. So if your aunt wants to give you $0.50 for every tree you climb and your uncle wants to give you $50 for every tree you climb, both are great donations!

I still don’t get it. Explain it to me one more time. Pick an activity that you or your kids can do. Decide when and where you’re going to TRY your activity. Ask friends and family to support your activity by sending them the letter provided which includes how to donate. Send your supporters pictures of you when you do your event and let them know that you met your goal!
